Wow. Can it really be SIX years, already? I feel like it was just a short while ago that I was rocking you to sleep, nursing you, changing your diapers, and watching your first teeth come in as you began taking your first steps. My first baby. My boy. And now look at you...six years old!
And there are still plenty of new and firsts still happening. This year, before your sixth birthday, you have lost two teeth (bottom middle)! And you have also learned how to read. We are still very much in the process, though, as you continue to grow as a great reader. You are currently reading at about an end of first grade to beginning of second grade level. But you are not motivated to read, and pretty much only do it when asked. ;) I look forward to watching that begin to really "click" for you in the next year.
While you have calmed down quite a bit as you've grown, you are still very much a little ball of energy! These winter months can be SO challenging, as you get very restless when trapped in the house for too long. Thankfully, we have you enrolled in gymnastics and you seem to enjoy that a lot! We have been so impressed with how quickly you are able to learn the skills in gymnastics. You are a natural! :) You are just now moving up to size six clothes (but most tops and shorts are still 5T). You are weighing in at 45 lbs, and measuring 46.5 inches tall...putting you in the 45th percentile for weight and the 70th for height. :)
Your favorite toys right now are Ninja Turtles, Trashies, monster trucks, and Legos. SUCH a boy! Your favorite friends are Caleb C., your cousin Morgan, and pretty much all of our neighbors (Sam, Gracie, Claire, Emma). Your favorite food is bacon and pancakes (what you chose for your birthday dinner). Your favorite shows on TV are Wild Kratts and American Ninja Warrior. Your favorite movie is Turbo. Memory and War (the card game) are currently your favorite games. You told the doctor this week that you want to be a baker when you grow up. Why? So you can eat all the cake you'd ever want! :) You have really enjoyed playing the piano (with no official instruction yet). This year, you learned to play Mary Had a Little Lamb and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, as well as the beginning of Fur Elise. :) We are considering when to begin lessons for you. You can also play a few chords on the ukulele.
You are usually a wonderful big brother to your THREE sisters. And they really do love you. Sarah especially has a special bond with you. I think it's because you two are the most similar. ;) You ADORE your newest sister, Ruthie, and kiss on her all day long. We have trusted you to hold her while standing up and walking around, and you do a great job with her. It puts a huge smile on my face to watch you nurture her. While you usually play very well with them, you also very much enjoy pushing their buttons. Must be a boy thing. But you seem to delight in making them scream. You love chasing them, scaring them, and flat out antagonizing them. Sometimes they seem to enjoy it, and others not so much. But at the end of the day, they truly are your best friends, and you all love each other SO much. :)
I love you with all of my heart, son. I love the fine, young boy that you are becomming. You are respectful, thoughtful, and kind. You are incredibly intelligent and funny. You have a deep sense of right and wrong and a passion for pursuing what is right. I look forward to continuing to watch you become the boy God has made you to be!
